Port Stanley survives penalties, beats North Middlesex, 3-0North Middlesex Arena Sat, Dec 14, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Despite having to fight off several power plays, the Port Stanley Sailors were able to defeat the North Middlesex Stars, 3-0. Port Stanley was paced by Tyler Beaulieu, who registered one goal. Beaulieu scored nine seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Stanley. Tyson Corkum picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:35 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Sailors racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Port Stanley had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Sailors put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow North Middlesex to score on any of its six power plays. Port Stanley's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Sailors gives up 2.9 goals on average per game. Port Stanley's offense rang up 45 shots on the Stars' net. Port Stanley also got points from Corkum, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Port Stanley also got a goal from Findley Brandon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Port Stanley were Will Kilgour and Dylan Bedard, who contributed one a piece. Ricky Corkum recorded 20 saves for the Sailors. Port Stanley registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For the Sailors, Tanner Turley was ejected from the game. Dane Gubbels made 42 saves for North Middlesex on 45 shots. The Stars ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Team's Blake Reed and Dylan Carroll were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. |
