Underhill leads Aylmer over North Middlesex, 6-3

The Aylmer Spitfires' Cody Underhill had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 6-3 win over the North Middlesex Stars.

Underhill scored on the power play at 12:13 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Aylmer and again while short handed 7:04 into the third to make the score 4-2 Aylmer.

Aylmer's penalty kill excelled, as the Spitfires gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:30 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Aylmer bested its season scoring average. This season, the Spitfires average 3.3 goals per contest. Aylmer cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances. The Spitfires were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 27 penalty minutes.

Aylmer additionally got points from Clint Walker, who also registered two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Aylmer included Mitch Roloson and Eric Nemeth, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Aylmer were Cameron Mancini, who had two and Kyle Dedecker, Ryan Stapleton, Cody Benner, and Brad Payne, who contributed one a piece.

North Middlesex was helped by Mike Sharpe, who registered one goal. Sharpe scored on the power play 9:48 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Aylmer. The Stars had gained a power play chance when Josh Houston was whistled for tripping. North Middlesex also had goals scored by Greg Apps and Tom Bedour, who scored one goal each. In addition, North Middlesex received assists from Nolan Vlasman, who had one.

Aylmer's Dan Black stopped 19 shots out of the 22 that he faced. For the Spitfires, Payne was ejected from the game. Dane Gubbels made 17 saves for North Middlesex on 23 shots. The Stars ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. North Middlesex ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blake Reed was ejected from the game.
