Port Stanley blows out Exeter, 7-1

The Port Stanley Sailors had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-1 win over the Exeter Hawks.

Luke McGuire had one goal and two assists to lead Port Stanley. McGuire scored on the power play 2:30 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Port Stanley. The Sailors had gotten the advantage when Exeter's Cam Dykstra was sent off for too many men. Brad Daly picked up the assist.

Port Stanley was led by goalie Ricky Corkum, who finished with 29 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Corkum will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.14.

The Sailors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Port Stanley forced the Hawks goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. The Sailors surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Port Stanley averages 4.2 goals per contest.

Port Stanley also got points from Anders Adzija, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Stanley included Tyson Corkum, who had two and Keaton McIntyre, Alex Weaver, and Tyler Beaulieu, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Stanley came via Nicholas Phillips, Paolo Di lorio, and Connor Tamborro, who each chipped in one and Zachary Zinga and Mark Brisson, who contributed two a piece.

Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Robert Campbell, who had one.

The Sailors incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Hoover rejected 34 shots on goal for Exeter. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Exeter ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chiristopher Pfaff was ejected from the game.
