Thamesford outlasts Aylmer, 4-3East Elgin CC Rink Sat, Nov 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Thamesford Trojans gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Aylmer Spitfires. Thamesford gained the winning advantage on a goal by Justin Cooper 13:41 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Aylmer's power play was ineffective against the Trojans' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:18 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Spitfires were unable to stop Thamesford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Trojans eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Thamesford had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances. The Trojans were led by Mitch Davies, who tallied two goals. Davies scored the first of his two goals at 1:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thamesford. Marcus Gverzdys assisted on the tally. Davies' next tally made the score 2-0 Thamesford with 3:54 left in the first period. Thamesford also got a goal from Dakota Hill as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thamesford were Jake McColl and Kyle Walker, who contributed one a piece. Aylmer forced Thamesford goalie Jake Fonti to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Spitfires were led by Derek Folkard (APM), who finished with two goals. Folkard (APM) scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Thamesford. Aylmer had taken the advantage when the Trojans' Hill got sent off for checking from behind. Kyle Dedecker picked up the assist. Folkard (APM)'s next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 14:33 left in the third period. Luke Bettencourt provided the assist. Will Goodhue also scored for Aylmer. Fonti rejected 35 shots on goal for Thamesford. The Trojans ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For Thamesford, Liam Carson was ejected from the game. Dan Black recorded 29 saves for the Spitfires. Aylmer ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors and one major. The Spitfires ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jason Creces was ejected from the game.
