Lucan uses shootout to best Exeter, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Lucan Irish defeated the Exeter Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Lucan forced Exeter goalie Joe Metzger to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

The Irish were helped by Nathan Marcil, who finished with one goal. Marcil scored on the power play 12:58 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A tripping penalty on Brodie Balcom had put Lucan on the power play. Andrew Reichert picked up the assist. Lucan also got a goal from Jake Morin as well. In addition, Lucan received assists from Mitch Smith, who had one.

The Hawks kept the Irish's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Beattie made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Exeter was helped by Cam Jude, who grabbed one goal. Jude scored on the power play 10:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Exeter. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Jordan Vanderwel was put in the box for tripping. Trevor Thornton provided the assist. Chiristopher Pfaff also scored for Exeter. More assists for Exeter came via Kalvin Thornton, who had two.

Lucan incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Irish ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Zach Beaumont was ejected from the game. Exeter's Metzger stopped 41 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
