Lucan outlasts Aylmer, 5-3SOJHL Wed, Oct 30, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Lucan Irish escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Aylmer Spitfires. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Zach Beaumont's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Beaumont had two goals and one assist to lead Lucan. Beaumont scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:05 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Irish had gotten the advantage when Aylmer's Mark Macpherson was sent off for slashing. Andrew Purdom provided the assist. Beaumont's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Lucan with 11:46 left in the third period. Lucan had taken the advantage when the Spitfires' Clint Walker got sent off for hooking. Dylan Brooks assisted on the tally. The Irish pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 48 penalty minutes. Aylmer was unable to stop Lucan from sending pucks towards the net, and the Irish eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Lucan's penalty kill managed to stymie the Spitfires' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. Lucan also got points from Nathan Marcil, who also had one goal and two assists. Jake Morin also scored for Lucan. Other players who recorded assists for Lucan were Ryan Martin, who had one. Aylmer's penalty kill unit could not stop the Irish's power play, which converted on three of three opportunities. The Spitfires were led by Trevor Stewart, who finished with two goals. Stewart scored the first of his two goals at nine seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Tyler Marr picked up the assist. Stewart's next tally made the score 2-1 Aylmer with 19:43 left in the second period. Aylmer had gained a power play chance when Dylan Murray was whistled for cross checking. Cody Underhill assisted on the tally. Aylmer also got a goal from Jason Creces as well. More assists for Aylmer came via Ryan Stapleton and Will Goodhue, who each chipped in one. Tyler Beattie made 20 saves for Lucan on 23 shots. Lucas Easterbrook recorded 29 saves for the Spitfires. Aylmer incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. For the Spitfires, Brad Payne was ejected from the game. |
