Exeter's Balcom deadly on offense in 5-2 win against North Middlesex

The Exeter Hawks relied on the scoring touch of Brodie Balcom, who netted two goals, to beat the North Middlesex Stars, 5-2.

Balcom scored at 12:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Exeter and again while on the power play 14:56 into the second to make the score 5-1 Exeter.

Exeter pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 33 penalty minutes.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Exeter kept North Middlesex's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Foster made 39 saves on 44 shots. The Hawks' goal total was higher than their season average. Exeter has scored at the pace of 2.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Exeter also got points from Joe Dykstra, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Trevor Thornton also scored for Exeter. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Braedon Van Hooydoak, who had two and Matt Clarke, Kalvin Thornton, Chiristopher Pfaff, Carter Austin (FAPM), Brandon Willis, and Jesse McIntyre, who contributed one a piece.

The Stars were led by Josh DenOtter, who had one goal. DenOtter scored 2:42 into the second period to make the score 1-1. North Middlesex also got a goal from Greg Masschelein as well. More assists for North Middlesex came via Mike Sharpe, who had one.

The Hawks' Joe Metzger stopped 18 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Exeter registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pfaff was ejected from the game. North Middlesex incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
