Mt.Brydges survives Exeter comeback, wins 4-3

The Exeter Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs held on for a 4-3 victory.

Mt.Brydges took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Exeter storm back on a Chiristopher Pfaff goal 14:04 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Sean Candler had one goal and three assists to lead the Bulldogs. Candler scored short handed 6:54 into the third period to make the score Mt.Brydges. Mt.Brydges played down a man on Matt Rinker's checking from behind. Billy Morris provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:12 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Bulldogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Mt.Brydges had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs forced the Hawks goalie Dylan Hoover to work between the pipes, taking 68 shots. Mt.Brydges was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of 11 man advantages.

Mt.Brydges also got points from Grant Johns, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Spencer Wilson, who also registered two goals and one assist.

Exeter was often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game the Hawks had been spending in the box. Exeter's offense rang up 38 shots on the Bulldogs' net. Team could not crack Mt.Brydges' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 14 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Hawks were led by Jacob MacDougall, who finished with one goal and one assist. MacDougall scored on the power play 2:36 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Braedon Van Hooydoak picked up the assist. Cody McIntyre also scored for Exeter. More assists for Exeter came via Trevor Thornton, Kalvin Thornton, and Jesse McIntyre, who each chipped in one.

Patrick Maziarz recorded 35 saves for the Bulldogs. Team's Robert McTaggart and Rinker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Exeter's Hoover stopped 64 shots out of the 68 that he faced. For the Hawks, McIntyre and Joe Dykstra were ejected from the contest.
