Port Stanley survives penalties, beats North Middlesex, 4-1SOJHL Thu, Sep 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The North Middlesex Stars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Port Stanley Sailors shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-1. Port Stanley was led by Luke McGuire, who tallied one goal and one assist. McGuire scored on the power play 1:07 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Port Stanley. Zachary Zinga picked up the assist. The Sailors stifled North Middlesex's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Stanley forced the Stars goalie Dane Gubbels to work between the pipes, taking 69 shots. The Sailors found themselves short handed often, totaling 30 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Port Stanley additionally got points from Zinga, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Port Stanley also got a goal from Anders Adzija as well. More assists for Port Stanley came via Tyson Corkum, who had two and Taylor Schram and Mark Brisson, who each chipped in one. North Middlesex's penalty kill managed to stymie Port Stanley's power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down. The Stars struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 46 penalty minutes for 11 opposing power plays. North Middlesex was led by Brady Smith (APM), who scored the team's only goal. Smith (APM) scored 15:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Middlesex. Brody Faircloth provided the assist. Brandon Garner rejected 24 shots on goal for the Sailors. Gubbels recorded 65 saves for the Stars. For North Middlesex, Kyle Evans was ejected from the game.
