Thamesford holds on for 4-3 win against Exeter

The Thamesford Trojans survived a determined comeback attempt by the Exeter Hawks on the way to a 4-3 win.

Thamesford made the score 3-1 on a goal by Fabio Galante at 15:08 in the second period, and Exeter got as close as 3-2 when Joe Dykstra scored 6:30 into the third period.

The Trojans got the win with help from a great game by Galante, who had two goals and one assist. Galante scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:09 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Thamesford. Thamesford had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Jesse McIntyre was sent off for holding. Kyle Walker assisted on the tally. Galante's next tally on the power play made the score Thamesford with 4:52 left in the second period. Walker provided the assist.

The Trojans stifled Exeter's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Thamesford kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Joe Metzger made 50 saves on 54 shots. The Trojans were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Andrew McLennan also scored for Thamesford. In addition, Thamesford received assists from Dylan Wilson-Foote, who had two and James Toye and Stavros Mandrapilias, who each chipped in one.

Exeter was helped by Tyler McNaughton, who finished with one goal. McNaughton scored 4:56 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cam Dykstra assisted on the tally. Exeter additionally got points from Dykstra, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Exeter also got a goal from Jacob MacDougall as well. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Conner Preston, who had two.

Jake Fonti made 22 saves for Thamesford on 25 shots. The Trojans registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Exeter, Cody McIntyre was ejected from the game.
