Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ayr Centennials defeated the Norwich Merchants in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 12 attempts between both teams. Norwich's shootout goal was scored by Mitchell Berzins. In addition to the clincher, Ayr got a shootout goal from Brendan Schaefer.The Centennials pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 18 penalty minutes. Ayr excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Centennials were helped by Schaefer, who grabbed one goal. Schaefer scored 15:12 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Others who scored for Ayr included Spencer Sweazy and Jeff Howlett, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ayr received assists from Andrew Richard, who had one. The Merchants' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Ayr power plays. Norwich forced Ayr goalie Mitch Figueirdo to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Merchants were led by Drake Morrell, who had one goal and one assist. Morrell scored 9:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Norwich. Nick Burdett provided the assist. Norwich also had goals scored by Berzins and Braeden Shand, who each put in one. More assists for Norwich came via Kurtis Lavis and Derek Slaght, who contributed one a piece. Figueirdo rejected 35 shots on goal for the Centennials. Ayr ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mac Kemp was ejected from the game. Zac Easveld made 18 saves for Norwich on 21 shots. The Merchants incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
