Paris vanquishes New Hamburg in shootout, 6-5 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Paris Mounties defeated the New Hamburg Firebirds in a shootout 6-5 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. Paris also got a shootout goal from Richard Brooks.

The Mounties came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Paris trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by New Hamburg's Kyle Mohr at 9:22 in the first period. The Mounties knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Ian Fowler at 19:38 in the third period.

Paris got the win with help from a great game by Fowler, who had two goals and one assist. Fowler scored the first of his two goals at 6:16 into the third period to make the score 5-4 New Hamburg. Brady Wheelans picked up the assist. Fowler's next tally made the score with 22 seconds left in the third period.

Paris additionally got points from Tye Calder, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Paris also had goals scored by Hunter Moore and Scott Sippel, who each put in one. More assists for Paris came via Clayton Chalmers, who had two and Matthew Small and Zach Taylor, who each chipped in one.

The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. The Mounties were unable to stop New Hamburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Firebirds eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

New Hamburg was helped by Sean Kienapple, who had two goals and two assists. Kienapple scored the first of his two goals at 37 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. Mohr provided the assist. Kienapple's next tally made the score 2-0 New Hamburg with 15:19 left in the first period. A checking from behind penalty on Graham Kitching had put the Firebirds on the power play. David Jennings assisted on the tally. New Hamburg also got points from Mohr, who also finished with two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. New Hamburg also got a goal from Anthony Osterling as well. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Carter Tracey, who had three and Quinten Haddock and Brodie Muckler, who contributed one a piece.

Zach Shompe made 27 saves for Paris on 32 shots. The Mounties ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Paris, Kitching and Brodie Smith were ejected from the contest. New Hamburg's Eric Peicheff stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Firebirds incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Team's Osterling and Tracey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
