Huge game by Schaefer boosts Ayr over New Hamburg, 8-4

Brendan Schaefer was all over the ice for the Ayr Centennials, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Ayr's 8-4 win over the New Hamburg Firebirds.

Schaefer's tallies came at 3:07 into the third period to make the score 4-3 New Hamburg and 12:36 into the third to make the score 6-4 Ayr.

The Centennials made New Hamburg's netminders to work without much rest, launching 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Eric Peicheff made 36 stops and Ryan Purcell made zero. Ayr found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Centennials have scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Ayr was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances. The Centennials could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ayr additionally got points from Adam Fisher, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Jake Whibbs, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Jeff Howlett, who had two and Daniel D'ercole and Logan Beechey, who each put in one. More assists for Ayr came via Andrew Richard, who had two, Mac Kemp and Connor MacLean, who each chipped in one, and Anthony Pullia and Mike McKnight, who contributed three a piece.

The Firebirds' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as New Hamburg finished with 28 penalty minutes. The Firebirds were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages.

New Hamburg was led by Kyle Mohr, who had one goal and two assists. Mohr scored on the power play 16:51 into the second period to make the score 4-2 New Hamburg. The Firebirds earned a power play opportunity when Riley Clipper was put in the box for holding. Sean Kienapple provided the assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Anthony Osterling, Brandon Quan, and Carter Tracey, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Kyle McDonald and Tyler Hoffman, who each chipped in one.

Lee Doherty made 22 saves for Ayr on 26 shots. For New Hamburg, Tracey was ejected from the game.
