New Hamburg stifles Tavistock's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The New Hamburg Firebirds came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Tavistock Braves, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

New Hamburg led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Firebirds' Carter Tracey's scored at 17:54 in the second period to put New Hamburg up 4-1.

The Firebirds got the win on the strength of a great game by Sean Kienapple, who had one goal and two assists. Kienapple scored on the power play 1:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg. A tripping penalty on Jake Wiffen had put New Hamburg on the power play. Tyler Randerson assisted on the tally.

The Firebirds' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as New Hamburg finished with 36 penalty minutes.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Randerson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tracey, who also registered one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Anthony Osterling and Brodie Muckler, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Kyle Mohr, Brandon Yantzi, Taylor Wood, Jaden Goetz, and Tyler Hoffman, who each chipped in one.

The Firebirds were unable to stop Tavistock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Tavistock was helped by Dylan Yantzi, who finished with one goal. Yantzi scored short handed 10:21 into the third period to make the score 4-3 New Hamburg. The Braves found themselves down a man on Sean Leslie's interference. Jarrod Yantzi picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Mackenzie Kalbfleisch and Angus Rowland AP, who contributed one a piece.

Eric Peicheff recorded 33 saves for New Hamburg. The Firebirds registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Jason Miller made 20 saves for Tavistock on 24 shots. The Braves incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
