Paris beats Wellesley 6-4 after comeback scare

The Wellesley Applejacks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Paris Mounties would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

Paris made the score 6-3 on a goal by Ian Fowler at 15:14 in the third period, and Wellesley got as close as 6-4 when Reid Denstedt scored 17:08 into the third period.

The Mounties forced the Applejacks' goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 44 shots and forcing 38 saves. Josh Heer made 32 stops and Brayden Bruce made six.

Paris additionally got points from Brodie Smith, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Paris included Matthew Small and Richard Brooks, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Zack Skubnik, who had two, Brady Wheelans, who had three, and Mitchell Harvey and Clayton Chalmers, who contributed one a piece.

Wellesley struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 36 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

The Applejacks were led by Alex Stoody, who registered two goals. Stoody scored the first of his two goals at 3:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Sean McEwan picked up the assist. Stoody's next tally made the score 3-2 Wellesley with 36 seconds left in the first period. Brett MacDonald assisted on the tally. Wellesley also got a goal from Luke Rose as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Cal Jefferies, Cody Tapsell, Devon Wagner, and Parker Wood, who each chipped in one.

Paris' Zach Schompe stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Mounties incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wellesley registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Applejacks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blake Hetherington was ejected from the game.
