Ayr rips Norwich, 6-2

The Ayr Centennials were firing on all cylinders against the Norwich Merchants, and when the final buzzer sounded Centennials emerged with a 6-2 win.

Anthony Pullia had two goals to lead Ayr to victory. Pullia's tallies came on the power play at 16:21 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ayr and on the power play 18:14 into the second to make the score 4-1 Ayr.

The Centennials' penalty kill excelled, as Ayr gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:43 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Norwich was unable to stop the Centennials from sending pucks towards the net, and Ayr eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Centennials cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on three chances. Ayr was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

Others who scored for Ayr included Riley Clipper, who had two and Ben Poort and Austin Sine, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ayr received assists from Connor MacLean, Brendan Schaefer, and Mike McKnight, who each chipped in one and Eric Hackborn and Andrew Richard, who contributed two a piece.

The Merchants were held below their usual level of production. Norwich averages 4.4 goals per game.

The Merchants were led by Brandon Zimmermann, who registered one goal. Zimmermann scored 5:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Todd Poirier provided the assist. Norwich also got a goal from Kurtis Lavis as well.

The Centennials' Mitch Figueirdo stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. For Ayr, Logan Beechey was ejected from the game. Zac Easveld made 30 saves for Norwich on 36 shots. The Merchants ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Norwich ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Slaght was ejected from the game.
