Stoody's hat trick boosts Wellesley over Woodstock, 7-4

The Woodstock Navy Vets could not stop the Wellesley Applejacks' Alex Stoody, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-4 win.

Stoody notched his first tally 1:37 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:18 into the first and at 19:41 into the third.

Wellesley kept Woodstock's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Roefs made 40 saves on 47 shots.

Wellesley also got points from Brett MacDonald, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wellesley included Reid Denstedt, Blake Hetherington, and Luke Rose, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Parker Wood, who had three, Cal Jefferies, Mckenzie Carter, and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in one, and Mark Detzler, Troy Williams, and Sean McEwan, who contributed two a piece.

The Navy Vets managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Woodstock wound up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Navy Vets forced the Applejacks goalie Josh Heer to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Woodstock was helped by Braden Hutchison, who grabbed two goals. Hutchison scored the first of his two goals at 16:01 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Wellesley. Hutchison's next tally made the score 5-4 Wellesley with 6:35 left in the third period. Woodstock also had goals scored by Michael Nutt, Justin Elms, and Mackenzie Langford, who each put in one. More assists for Woodstock came via Mike Gillespie, Brandon Velda, and Tyler Brown, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley's Heer stopped 45 shots out of the 49 that he faced. The Applejacks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Navy Vets registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
