New Hamburg rips Delhi, 7-1

The New Hamburg Firebirds were firing on all cylinders against the Delhi Travellers, and when the final buzzer sounded Firebirds emerged with a 7-1 win.

New Hamburg's Ryan Purcell was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Purcell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.59 entering the contest.

The Firebirds were paced by Taylor Wood, who registered one goal. Wood scored on the power play 8:49 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New Hamburg. New Hamburg had gotten the advantage when Delhi's Jordan Betzold was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Kory Nowak picked up the assist.

The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Travellers were unable to stop New Hamburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Firebirds eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Sean Kienapple, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Nowak, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Anthony Osterling, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New Hamburg included David Jennings, Brandon Yantzi, and Tyler Hoffman, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Matt Yantzi, who had two and Tyler Randerson, Kyle McDonald, Quinten Haddock, Kyle Mohr, and Andrew Boer, who each chipped in one.

New Hamburg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nick Heath made 24 saves for Delhi on 31 shots. The Travellers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
