Huge game by Morrell boosts Norwich over Woodstock, 4-0

Drake Morrell had two goals and one assist to lead the Norwich Merchants to a 4-0 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Morrell's tallies came at 1:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Norwich and on the power play 17:41 into the second to make the score 3-0 Norwich.

Norwich was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Merchants allow 2.5 goals per game. Woodstock was unable to stop Norwich from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Norwich also had goals scored by Kurtis Lavis and Braeden Shand, who each put in one. In addition, Norwich received assists from Mitchell Berzins, who had three and Todd Kemp, Brandon Zimmermann, and Todd Poirier, who each chipped in one.

The Navy Vets were held below their usual level of production. Woodstock averages 2.3 goals per game.

Zac Easveld recorded 15 saves for Norwich. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Navy Vets' Michael Roefs stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Woodstock incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Navy Vets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mackenzie Scott was ejected from the game.
