Ayr uses fast start to beat Burford, 11-1

The Burford Bulldogs fell behind early, and the Ayr Centennials kept piling on the points on the way to an 11-1 victory.

Ayr got the win thanks to a great game by Riley Clipper, who had two goals and one assist. Clipper scored the first of his two goals at 1:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jake Whibbs provided the assist. Clipper's next tally made the score 10-1 Ayr with 3:58 left in the third period. The Centennials earned a power play opportunity when Pat Bates was put in the box for bench / coach. Logan Beechey picked up the assist.

Burford was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Ayr was able to score five times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:58 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Centennials penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 27.0 minutes per game Ayr had been spending in the box. The Centennials made Bulldogs' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 42 shots and forcing 31 saves. Nick Trask made seven stops and Riley Edwards made 24. Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bulldogs to score on any of their four power plays. The Centennials bested their season scoring average. Ayr has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Centennials were also effective in Burford's zone, and came away with two goals.

Ayr also got points from Adam Fisher, who also registered one goal and two assists, Mac Kemp, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Anthony Pullia, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Andrew Richard, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Brendan Schaefer, who had two and Rob Grant, Mike McKnight, and Jack Taylor, who each put in one. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jeff Howlett, who had one and Ben Poort and Brandon Christopher, who contributed two a piece.

The Bulldogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and three majors for 71 minutes in penalty time. Burford had been averaging 33.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs' offense operated below they season average. Burford averages 3.1 goals per game.

The Bulldogs were led by Kyle Chaney, who scored the team's only goal. Chaney scored 7:58 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jesse Brooks provided the assist.

Colt Seraphin made 19 saves for Ayr on 20 shots. For the Centennials, Jordan Pettitt was ejected from the game. Team's Blaise Burtnick, Matt Kliewer, and Andrew Schunk were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
