Wellesley rolls over Woodstock, 9-2

The Woodstock Navy Vets had trouble finding ways to stop the Wellesley Applejacks, which beat Navy Vets, 9-2.

Sean McEwan had one goal and two assists to lead Wellesley. McEwan scored 18:13 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wellesley. Troy Williams picked up the assist.

The Applejacks forced Woodstock goalie Michael Roefs to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Wellesley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Applejacks average 5.2 goals per game.

Wellesley additionally got points from Williams, who also racked up two goals and one assist and Mackenzie Shantz, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Wellesley also had goals scored by Alex Stoody, who had two and Devon Wagner and Parker Wood, who each put in one. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Felix Lantaigne, who had one, Reid Denstedt, who had four, and Blake Hetherington and Brett MacDonald, who each chipped in three.

The Navy Vets' offense rang up 35 shots on Wellesley's net.

Woodstock was led by Mike Gillespie, who registered one goal. Gillespie scored on the power play 17:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. A head contact penalty on Hetherington had put the Navy Vets on the power play. Garrett Whetham assisted on the tally. Woodstock also got a goal from Mackenzie Scott as well. More assists for Woodstock came via Braden Hutchison, Tyler Brown, and Jake Schneider, who contributed one a piece.

Brayden Bruce rejected 33 shots on goal for the Applejacks. Wellesley totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For the Applejacks, Lantaigne was ejected from the game. Michael Roefs made 43 saves for Woodstock on 52 shots. The Navy Vets totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Woodstock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Scott was ejected from the game.
