Ayr holds on for 5-3 win against Delhi

The Delhi Travellers tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Ayr Centennials held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Jack Taylor put Ayr up 5-1 in the second period, but Delhi pulled to within two on Mike DeCoene's tally 13:19 into the third period.

Riley Clipper had two goals to lead the Centennials to victory. Clipper found the back of the net 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 11:39 into the first to make the score 2-1 Ayr.

Ayr made Travellers' goalies to work in net, racking up 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Nick Heath made 18 stops and Jordan Ironside made 10.

Ayr also got points from Jake Whibbs, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Brendan Schaefer as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Logan Beechey, who had two and Brandon Quan, Ben Poort, and Brett Gibson, who each chipped in one.

The Travellers' offense rang up 41 shots on the Centennials' net.

Others who scored for Delhi included Josh Bradshaw and Brad Ward, who each put in one. More assists for Delhi came via Jordan Betzold, Connor Magwood, Taylor Hockley, and Kelsey Vanyermen, who contributed one a piece.

Mitch Figueirdo rejected 38 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Delhi incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
