New Hamburg holds on for 4-3 win against DelhiWilmot Recreation Complex Sat, Dec 07, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Delhi Travellers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the New Hamburg Firebirds held on for a 4-3 victory. A goal by David Jennings put New Hamburg up 4-1 in the second period, but Delhi pulled to within one on Taylor Hockley's tally 10:12 into the third period. Carter Tracey had two goals to lead the Firebirds to victory. Tracey scored at 9:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg and again while 12:39 into the third to make the score 5-3 New Hamburg. The Travellers were unable to stop New Hamburg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Firebirds eventually piled up 67 shots on goal. New Hamburg also got points from Jennings, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Kory Nowak and Tyler Hoffman, who each put in one. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Connor Voigt, Tyler Randerson, Quinten Haddock, Kyle Mohr, and Taylor Wood, who contributed one a piece. Delhi managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Travellers finished below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Delhi forced New Hamburg goalie Ryan Purcell to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Delhi additionally got points from Brad Ward, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Delhi came via Steve Barati, who had one and Mick Finn-Dunn, who had two. Ryan Purcell made 38 saves for the Firebirds on 41 shots. New Hamburg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Travellers' Jordan Ironside stopped 63 shots out of the 67 that he faced. Delhi registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
