Miller stymies Ayr, Tavistock wins 4-1Tavistock Fri, Dec 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Tavistock Braves relied on the sparkling performance of Jason Miller in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Ayr Centennials. Tavistock's penalty kill excelled, as the Braves gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Tavistock was led by Matthew Lupton, who registered one goal and one assist. Lupton scored on the power play 6:29 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Tavistock. The Braves had gotten the advantage when Ayr's Jeff Howlett was sent off for fighting (instigator). Jordan Ritsma picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:10 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts. The Tavistock penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and three majors for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Braves had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Tavistock stifled the Centennials' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Tavistock also got points from Ritsma, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Angus Rowland AP, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tavistock also got a goal from Jeremy Munro as well. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Sean Leslie and Mackenzie Kalbfleisch, who contributed one a piece. Ayr was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and three majors for 71 minutes in penalty time. The Centennials surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Ayr was held below its usual level of production. The Centennials put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Ayr's offense rang up 43 shots on the Braves' net. The Centennials were led by Jordan Pettitt, who scored the team's only goal. Pettitt scored 7:50 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Tavistock. Brendan Schaefer provided the assist. Tavistock's Miller stopped 42 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Braves registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. For Tavistock, Leslie, Sam MacPherson, Tristan Hohl, and Zach Pacheco were ejected from the contest. Ayr's starting goalie, Lee Doherty, made eight saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mitch Figueirdo, who stopped four shots. Team's Howlett, Eric Hackborn, Andrew Richard, and Lee Doherty were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
