Wellesley pulls away in second, rolls over Woodstock, 13-3Wellesley Sat, Nov 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets allowed the Wellesley Applejacks to net seven goals during the second period and fell, 13-3. Wellesley got the win thanks to a great game by Reid Denstedt, who had one goal and three assists. Denstedt scored 3:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Wellesley. Cody Tapsell picked up the assist. The Applejacks forced Navy Vets' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 56 shots and forcing 43 saves. Michael Roefs made 31 stops and Patrick Tanner made 12. Wellesley's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Woodstock power plays. The Applejacks outdid their season average for goals scored. Wellesley averages 4.8 goals per game. Wellesley also got points from Tapsell, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Devon Wagner, who also had two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Brett MacDonald, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Wellesley included Alex Stoody, who had three, Mckenzie Carter, who had two, and Luke Rose and Justin Lebold, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Sean McEwan, who had two, Troy Williams, who had three, and Taylor Doering, Felix Lantaigne, Blake Hetherington, and Parker Wood, who contributed one a piece. Woodstock could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Navy Vets were helped by Mike Gillespie, who registered one goal. Gillespie scored 18:18 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Mackenzie Scott assisted on the tally. Woodstock also had goals scored by Michael Nutt and Matt Jauernig, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Sam MacPherson and Derrick Fried, who each chipped in one. Brayden Bruce recorded 21 saves for the Applejacks. Wellesley incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
