Norwich falls to New Hamburg after surprising comebackNorwich Community Center Fri, Nov 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the New Hamburg Firebirds battled back to claim a 3-2 victory over the Norwich Merchants. New Hamburg never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Firebirds fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by Norwich's Ryan Stephenson at 19:39 in the second period. New Hamburg tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Kyle Mohr at 11:07 in the third period. The Firebirds scored the game winner at 12:48 in the third period on a goal by Mohr. Carter Tracey was all over the ice for New Hamburg, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Tracey scored the first of his two goals at 9:32 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Andrew Boer picked up the assist. Tracey's next tally made the score 3-2 New Hamburg with 7:12 left in the third period. Kyle McDonald provided the assist. The Firebirds could not produce up to they normal offensive output. New Hamburg puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Eric Peicheff, who had one and Sean Kienapple, who had two. The Merchants put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Firebirds to score on any of their four power plays. Norwich's offense operated below it season average. The Merchants average 4.3 goals per game. Norwich also got points from Todd Poirier, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Nick Burdett and Kurtis Lavis, who contributed one a piece. New Hamburg's Peicheff stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Firebirds incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Zac Easveld made 19 saves for Norwich on 22 shots. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
