Ayr survives Norwich comeback, wins 6-4

The Norwich Merchants tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Ayr Centennials held on for a 6-4 victory.

Ayr made the score 6-2 on a goal by Jake Whibbs at 18:20 in the third period, and Norwich got as close as 6-4 when Ryan Daymon scored 19:11 into the third period.

Adam Fisher was all over the ice for the Centennials, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Fisher scored 1:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Andrew Richard assisted on the tally.

Ayr kept the Merchants' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zac Easveld made 29 saves on 35 shots.

Ayr additionally got points from Richard, who also had one goal and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Logan Beechey as well. More assists for Ayr came via Mac Kemp, Austin Sine, and Anthony Pullia, who each chipped in one.

Norwich put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Centennials to score on any of their three power plays.

The Merchants were helped by Drake Morrell, who tallied one goal. Morrell scored on the power play 4:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Norwich. Norwich had gained a power play chance when Jordan Kerr was whistled for boarding. Todd Kemp provided the assist. Braeden Shand also scored for Norwich. In addition, Norwich received assists from Jesse Szabo, who had two and Derek Slaght, Todd Poirier, and Josh Herreman, who contributed one a piece.

Lee Doherty recorded 22 saves for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Merchants incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
