The New Hamburg Firebirds used a three-goal second period to put away the Woodstock Navy Vets, 7-2. Woodstock's power play was ineffective against New Hamburg's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Firebirds were led by Kory Nowak, who registered one goal and one assist. Nowak scored 5:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg. Tyler Randerson picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:27 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. New Hamburg kept the Navy Vets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Roefs made 39 saves on 46 shots. New Hamburg additionally got points from Kyle Mohr, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Carter Tracey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Taylor Wood, who had two and David Jennings and Andrew Boer, who scored one goal each. Woodstock was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. Woodstock was led by Sam MacPherson, who finished with one goal. MacPherson scored on the power play 4:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. The Navy Vets had gained a power play chance when Garrett Pollock was whistled for interference. Justin Elms provided the assist. Woodstock also got a goal from Derrick Fried as well. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Matt Jauernig, who had one. Ryan Purcell recorded 25 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg totaled 23 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. The Firebirds ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tracey was ejected from the game. For Woodstock, Jake Schneider was ejected from the game.
