Ayr boosted by Doherty's play in net, beats Burford 2-1

The Ayr Centennials relied on the sparkling performance of Lee Doherty in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Burford Bulldogs.

Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Ayr was led by Andrew Richard, who had one goal and one assist. Richard scored 14:25 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Ayr.

The Centennials stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ayr's offense operated below it season average. The Centennials average 4.1 goals per game. The Bulldogs were unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. Ayr could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Adam Fisher also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Riley Clipper, who had one.

Burford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bulldogs put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. Burford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Bulldogs were led by Kyle Chaney, who scored the team's only goal. Chaney scored 4:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Burford.

Doherty recorded 26 saves for the Centennials. Ayr registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. For the Centennials, Ben Poort was ejected from the game. Burford's Nick Trask stopped 52 shots out of the 54 that he faced.
