Wellesley blows out Woodstock, 5-1

The Wellesley Applejacks had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Woodstock was stymied by Wellesley netminder Josh Heer, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. The solid play of Heer will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.0.

The Applejacks were led by Luke Rose, who tallied one goal. Rose scored on the power play 16:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellesley. Wellesley had taken the advantage when the Navy Vets' Kyle Robertson got sent off for boarding. Parker Wood provided the assist.

The Applejacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Woodstock to score on any of its five power plays. Wellesley kept the Navy Vets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Roefs made 50 saves on 55 shots.

Wellesley also got points from Devon Wagner, who also had one goal and two assists, Brett MacDonald, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Wood, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Alex Stoody as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Mackenzie Shantz and Blake Hetherington, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks were unable to stop Woodstock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Navy Vets eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Wellesley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Applejacks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shantz was ejected from the game. Woodstock incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
