Bates lifts Burford over New Hamburg, 5-2Burford Community Centre Sat, Oct 26, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Pat Bates was all over the ice for the Burford Bulldogs, as he tallied two goals in Burford's 5-2 win over the New Hamburg Firebirds. Bates scored at 4:41 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Burford and again while 7:47 into the first to make the score 2-0 Burford.The Bulldogs' penalty kill excelled, as Burford gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays. The Bulldogs kept New Hamburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Purcell made 30 saves on 35 shots. Burford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game. Burford also had goals scored by cole malatches, who had one and Kyle Chaney, who had two. In addition, Burford received assists from Chris Grand, Peter Janeck, Hugh Carson, Broidy Rondelet, and Adam Harris, who each chipped in one. The Firebirds did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. New Hamburg averages 4.8 goals per game. The Firebirds forced the Bulldogs goalie Riley Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. New Hamburg found itself short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. The Firebirds were helped by Kyle Mohr, who racked up one goal and one assist. Mohr scored on the power play 14:18 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Burford. New Hamburg had gotten the advantage when Burford's malatches was sent off for high sticking. Tyler Randerson provided the assist. New Hamburg also got a goal from Sean Kienapple as well. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Taylor Wood, who had one. The Bulldogs' Edwards stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced.
