Ayr uses early goal to top Wellesley, 3-1

Logan Beechey scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Ayr Centennials held off the challenges of the Wellesley Applejacks in a tough 3-1 win.

Ayr took over the lead for good with a goal by Beechey at 1:19 in the first period. Jeff Howlett picked up the assist.

The Centennials were led by Connor MacLean, who tallied one goal. MacLean scored short handed 2:23 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr. Ayr was on a disadvantage when Jack Taylor went off the ice for holding. Brendan Schaefer provided the assist.

The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wellesley power plays.

Ayr additionally got points from Howlett, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Ayr came via Eric Hackborn, who had one.

Wellesley did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Applejacks average 4.6 goals per game.

Wellesley was led by Brett MacDonald, who scored the team's only goal. MacDonald scored 15:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ayr. Reid Denstedt assisted on the tally.

Lee Doherty rejected 21 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Josh Heer made 25 saves for the Applejacks on 28 shots. Wellesley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
