Ayr outlasts Norwich, 4-2

The game between the Ayr Centennials and the Norwich Merchants was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Ayr emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brendan Schaefer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Adam Fisher was all over the ice for the Centennials, as he registered two goals in the win. Fisher scored at 8:14 into the third period to make the score 2-2 and again while 12:15 into the third to make the score 4-2 Ayr.

Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Andrew Richard also scored for Ayr. In addition, Ayr received assists from Brandon Christopher, who had two and Mitch Figueirdo, Jake Whibbs, Connor MacLean, and Riley Clipper, who contributed one a piece.

Norwich was held below its usual level of production. The Merchants put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game.

Norwich was led by Drake Morrell, who finished with one goal and one assist. Morrell scored on the power play 3:14 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. The Merchants had gained a power play chance when Eric Hackborn was whistled for head contact. Mitchell Berzins provided the assist. Norwich also got a goal from Derek Slaght as well. More assists for Norwich came via Todd Kemp, who had one.

Ayr's Figueirdo stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Centennials incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Zac Easveld made 22 saves for Norwich on 26 shots. The Merchants incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Norwich ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Zimmermann was ejected from the game.
