Richard lifts Ayr over New Hamburg, 8-1North Dumfries Thu, Oct 17, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Andrew Richard had two goals to lead the Ayr Centennials to an 8-1 victory over the New Hamburg Firebirds. Richard scored on the power play at 50 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while on the power play 2:23 into the third to make the score 2-1 Ayr.New Hamburg's 19 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Firebirds let up seven goals while on the penalty kill. Ayr forced Firebirds' goaltenders to work all game long, launching 43 shots and forcing 35 saves. Eric Peicheff made 31 stops and Ryan Purcell made four. The Centennials bested their season scoring average. Ayr averages 4.4 goals per game. The defensemen of the Centennials were also effective in New Hamburg's zone, and came away with two goals. Ayr additionally got points from Brandon Quan, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Eric Hackborn, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Ayr also got a goal from Brandon Christopher as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Mac Kemp, Jake Whibbs, Connor MacLean, Brendan Schaefer, and Mike McKnight, who each chipped in one. The Firebirds' offense operated below they season average. New Hamburg averages 5.3 goals per game. The Firebirds could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game. New Hamburg was led by Tyler Randerson, who scored the team's only goal. Randerson scored on the power play 7:30 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Firebirds earned a power play opportunity when MacLean was put in the box for hooking. David Jennings picked up the assist. Lee Doherty recorded 24 saves for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. New Hamburg registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
