Woodstock holds on for 5-4 win against BurfordBurford Community Centre Sat, Oct 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Burford Bulldogs tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Woodstock Navy Vets held on for a 5-4 victory. Woodstock took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Burford storm back on a Tyler Vandenbussche goal 19:02 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Navy Vets' penalty kill excelled, as Woodstock gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. The Navy Vets outdid their season average for goals scored. Woodstock has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Navy Vets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game. Woodstock was helped by Dan Haig, who finished with one goal. Haig scored 7:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Woodstock. Justin Elms picked up the assist. Woodstock additionally got points from Nathan Innes, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Braden Hutchison also scored for Woodstock. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Michael Nutt, Matt Jauernig, Brandon Velda, Tyler Lyons, and Kyle Robertson, who each chipped in one.
