Paris uses shootout to best Ayr, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Paris Mounties defeated the Ayr Centennials in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Paris overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Mounties fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Ayr's Adam Fisher at 1:34 in the second period. Paris tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brady Wheelans at 5:21 in the third period.

The Mounties' penalty kill excelled, as Paris gave up one goal despite allowing 12 power plays.

The Mounties' offense rang up 38 shots on the Centennials' net. Paris could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Mounties were led by Scott Sippel, who registered one goal and one assist. Sippel scored on the power play 8:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Paris. A checking from behind penalty on Eric Hackborn had put Paris on the power play. Clayton Chalmers provided the assist. Paris also got a goal from Graham Kitching as well. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Zack Skubnik, Ian Fowler, and Hayden Cox, who contributed one a piece.

Ayr kept the Mounties' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Schompe made 32 saves on 35 shots.

The Centennials were led by Brandon Christopher, who finished with one goal and one assist. Christopher scored 19:01 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jack Taylor assisted on the tally. Ayr additionally got points from Fisher, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brett Gibson also scored for Ayr. More assists for Ayr came via Mac Kemp and Jordan Pettitt, who each chipped in one.

Paris registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Ayr's Lee Doherty stopped 34 shots out of the 37 that he faced. The Centennials incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Ayr ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Hackborn was ejected from the game.
