Woodstock outlasts Wellesley, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Woodstock Navy Vets escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Wellesley Applejacks.

Woodstock gained the winning advantage on a goal by Braden Hutchison 14:53 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Mike Gillespie had a great game for the Navy Vets, netting two goals. Gillespie found the back of the net 3:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock and again while on the power play 12:44 into the second to make the score 3-3.

Woodstock's offense rang up 34 shots on Wellesley's net.

Woodstock additionally got points from Justin Elms, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Kyle Robertson, who had three and Matt Jauernig, Taylor DeClercq, Tyler Brown, and Jake Schneider, who contributed one a piece.

The Applejacks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Wellesley averages 5.6 goals per game. The Applejacks kept the Navy Vets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Roefs made 38 saves on 41 shots.

Wellesley was helped by Sean McEwan, who tallied one goal. McEwan scored on the power play 7:59 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wellesley. The Applejacks had gained a power play chance when Schneider was whistled for slashing. Cal Jefferies assisted on the tally. Wellesley also got points from Jefferies, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Taylor Doering also scored for Wellesley. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Devon Wagner, who had one and Luke Rose and Justin Lebold, who contributed two a piece.

Woodstock incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Brayden Bruce recorded 30 saves for Wellesley. The Applejacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
