Gibson's big game bests Delhi in 9-3 Ayr win

The Ayr Centennials had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-3 win over the Delhi Travellers.

Ayr got the win behind a great game by Brett Gibson, who had one goal and two assists. Gibson scored 7:23 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Ayr. Brandon Christopher provided the assist.

The Centennials' offense rang up 42 shots on Delhi's net. Ayr found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Centennials average 4.0 goals per game. Team could not crack the Travellers' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 14 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Ayr also got points from Adam Fisher, who also registered three goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Jeff Howlett, who also had one goal and one assist, Andrew Richard, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Brendan Schaefer, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Jack Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Ayr also got a goal from Jordan Pettitt as well. In addition, Ayr received assists from Mac Kemp, Connor MacLean, and Riley Clipper, who each chipped in one and Brandon Quan and Ben Poort, who contributed two a piece.

Delhi was helped by Colin VanDale, who tallied one goal. VanDale scored 4:15 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Ayr. Josh Karn assisted on the tally. Jordan Betzold also scored for Delhi. More assists for Delhi came via Kelsey Vanyermen, Adam Bertling, Kyle Eggleston, and Michael Thomlison, who each chipped in one.

Mitch Figueirdo rejected 17 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Travellers' Nick Heath stopped 33 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Delhi incurred 50 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
