Ayr survives Burford comeback, wins 4-2North Dumfries Sun, Sep 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ayr Centennials survived a determined comeback attempt by the Burford Bulldogs on the way to a 4-2 win. Ayr made the score 4-1 on a goal by Brandon Christopher at 5:48 in the third period, and Burford got as close as 4-2 when Chris Grand scored 19:12 into the third period. The Bulldogs were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as the Centennials were able to score four times while on the power play. Burford was unable to stop Ayr from sending pucks towards the net, and the Centennials eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. Ayr was helped by Brendan Schaefer, who had one goal. Schaefer scored on the power play 13:46 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ayr. The Centennials earned a power play opportunity when Alex Siroishka was put in the box for high sticking. Brett Gibson provided the assist. Ayr also got points from Ben Poort, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Brandon Quan, who had one and Jordan Pettitt and Andrew Richard, who contributed two a piece. More assists for Burford came via Broidy Rondelet, who had one and Pat Bates, who had two. Ayr's Lee Doherty stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Centennials incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Team's Spencer Sweazy and Jeff Howlett were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Riley Edwards rejected 43 shots on goal for the Bulldogs. Burford totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For the Bulldogs, Hugh Carson was ejected from the game.
