Soo outlasts Michigan, 3-2

The Soo Eagles and the Michigan Warriors were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Soo made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mike Sabatini secured the win for the Eagles with a goal in the third period.

Soo was sparked by Sabatini, who registered one goal. Sabatini scored short handed 1:13 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Soo. The Eagles found themselves down a man on Evan Mills's checking from behind.

Soo excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Soo also got points from Derek Lodermeier, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dante Suffredini also scored for Soo. Other players who recorded assists for Soo were Sandis Zolmanis and Scott Cuthrell, who each chipped in one.

Michigan stifled the Eagles' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Warriors' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 27.5 shots per game they average.

Michigan was helped by Tyler Groat, who racked up one goal. Groat scored 10:00 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Zack Szajner picked up the assist. Michigan also got a goal from Alec Pellegrino as well. In addition, Michigan received assists from Jake Faiella and Colin Larkin, who contributed one a piece.

Nathan Klebe recorded 34 saves for Soo. The Eagles totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. Trevor Gorsuch rejected 18 shots on goal for the Warriors. Michigan ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
