GAME RECAP

Aberdeen's comeback falls short, Wenatchee wins 4-2

Odde Ice Center    Fri, Dec 13, 2013

The Aberdeen Wings almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Wenatchee Wild managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Wenatchee led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Wild's Nicholas Rivera's scored at 17:43 in the first period to put Wenatchee up 3-0.

The Wild's offense was clicking better than usual and put 33 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.1 shots per game they average.

Wenatchee was helped by Tanner Barnes, who had two goals. Barnes scored the first of his two goals at 15:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wenatchee. Barnes' next tally made the score 4-2 Wenatchee with 16:12 left in the third period. Matthew Nuttle provided the assist. Wenatchee also got points from Rivera, who also registered one goal and one assist. Gadel Gumerov also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Mike Coyne and Chris Jones, who contributed one a piece.

Aberdeen put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Wild to score on any of their three power plays. The Wings relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Kyle Haak, TJ Roo and Jordan Heller took 19 of the team's 31 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Aberdeen were Matt Brettingen and Jonathan Grebosky, who each chipped in one.

Wenatchee's Gustaf Johansson stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Wild incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Henry Dill rejected 29 shots on goal for Aberdeen. The Wings incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
