Wenatchee vanquishes Johnstown in shootout, 4-3 (3-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Wenatchee Wild defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks in a shootout 4-3 (3-1 SO).

The two teams needed seven turns to complete the shootout. Johnstown got a shootout goal from Omar Mullan. Wenatchee also got shootout goals from Trey Bradley and Parker Tuomie.

The Wild came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Wenatchee trailed 3-2 after a goal by the Tomahawks' Brandon Reinholz at 12:40 in the third period. The Wild knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Troy Loggins at 19:21 in the third period.

Wenatchee put 50 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.5 it averages per game.

The Wild were led by Bradley, who finished with one goal and one assist. Bradley scored on the power play 1:11 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matthew Nuttle provided the assist. Wenatchee also got points from Tuomie, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wenatchee were Andre Pison and Sam Becker, who each chipped in one.

Johnstown racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Tomahawks surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Johnstown relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Matthew Meier, Jordan Watt and Joe Drabin took 12 of the team's 23 shots.

The Tomahawks were helped by Trevor Recktenwald, who racked up one goal. Recktenwald scored on the power play 11:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Johnstown. Johnstown earned a power play opportunity when Nicholas Rivera was put in the box for hooking. Meier assisted on the tally. Johnstown additionally got points from Watt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Brady Bender and Alex Jaeckle, who contributed one a piece.

Wenatchee's Gustaf Johansson stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Wild totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Alex Okicki rejected 46 shots on goal for the Tomahawks. Johnstown registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
