Amarillo rides Delia to victory over Topeka, 4-1

Collin Delia had a standout game with 30 saves, and the Amarillo Bulls beat the Topeka RoadRunners 4-1.

Amarillo's penalty kill excelled, as the Bulls gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Amarillo was led by Brett Szajner, who registered one goal and one assist. Szajner scored on the power play 4:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amarillo. The Bulls earned a power play opportunity when Andrew Roye was put in the box for cross checking. Mike Davis assisted on the tally.

Amarillo forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 12 minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Bulls surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Amarillo relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Roman Ammirato, Brady Ferguson and Kyle Gattelaro took 14 of the team's 23 shots.

Amarillo additionally got points from Tyler Gernhofer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Amarillo came via Joe Grabowski, who had one.

The Topeka penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. The RoadRunners had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Topeka's defensemen also contributed in the offensive zone and ended up with 14 shots between them. The Bulls were unable to stop the RoadRunners from sending pucks towards the net, and Topeka eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The RoadRunners were led by James Ring, who scored the team's only goal. Ring scored on the power play 14:31 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amarillo. Topeka had gotten the advantage when Amarillo's Mitchell Vanderburgh was sent off for hooking. Tomas Nechala picked up the assist.

The Bulls registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Drew Vogler took the loss and made five saves before being replaced by PJ Bridges who made 14 saves. For the RoadRunners, Brandon Vuic was ejected from the game.
