Wichita Falls downs Corpus Christi, 5-2

Ben Kucera finished with two points to lead the Wichita Falls Wildcats to a 5-2 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays.

Wichita Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Corpus Christi power plays. The Wildcats' goal total was higher than their season average. Wichita Falls has scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign. With 36 shots on target during the contest, the Wildcats exceeded the 26.4 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita Falls also had goals scored by Colin Staub, who had two and Kirk Van Arkel and Jake Townsend, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wichita Falls received assists from Sam Pzazza, Nick Farmer, Josh Haverstrom, and Kyle Bauman, who each chipped in one and Tyler Ledford and Will Vosejpka, who contributed two a piece.

Corpus Christi's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Wichita Falls' power play unit.

The IceRays were helped by Nick Monfils, who grabbed one goal. Monfils scored 5:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. Martin Hojbjerg picked up the assist. Corpus Christi additionally got points from Hojbjerg, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Corpus Christi came via Grant Hutton, Tony Roisum, and Wes Michaud, who each chipped in one.

David Zevnik made 24 saves for the Wildcats on 26 shots. Wichita Falls incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ben Myers recorded 31 saves for Corpus Christi. The IceRays ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Corpus Christi ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Kelly was ejected from the game.
