Wichita Falls uses early goal to top Lone Star, 3-1

The Wichita Falls Wildcats took the lead against the Lone Star Brahmas in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Wichita Falls took over the lead for good with a goal by Colin Staub at 14:38 in the first period. Jake Townsend picked up the assist.

The Wildcats were led by goalie David Zevnik, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Zevnik will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.89.

Wichita Falls was led by Will Vosejpka, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Vosejpka scored 16:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wichita Falls. Kyle Bauman assisted on the tally.

The Wildcats stifled Lone Star's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defense for Wichita Falls played an important role offensively, racking up 13 shots on goal. With 31 shots on target during the contest, the Wildcats exceeded the 26.6 shots they average per game this year.

Wichita Falls additionally got points from Bauman, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Wichita Falls came via Andrew Kerr, Josh Owings, and Tyler Ledford, who each chipped in one.

The 26 shots that the Brahmas put on net surpassed Lone Star's average of 15.2 shots per game this season.

The Brahmas were led by Jan Hudecek, who scored the team's only goal. Hudecek scored 14:21 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wichita Falls. RJ Salvato picked up the assist.

Wichita Falls incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Lone Star's TJ Black stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Brahmas incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
