Odessa wins tough contest against Topeka, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Odessa Jackalopes escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Topeka RoadRunners.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jake Kreutzer secured the win for Odessa with a goal in the third period.

The Jackalopes were paced by Kreutzer, who racked up one goal. Kreutzer scored 13:13 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Odessa. Connor Thie assisted on the tally.

Odessa's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Topeka power plays. By firing 27 shots on goal, the Jackalopes exceeded the 14.7 shots they average per game this year.

Odessa additionally got points from Thie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Odessa also got a goal from Ian Mansfield as well. In addition, Odessa received assists from Razmuz Waxin-Engback and Leo Lumm, who contributed one a piece.

Topeka put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.9 it averages per game.

The RoadRunners were led by Jasen Fernsler, who finished with one goal and one assist. Fernsler scored 4:19 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Sam Rennaker picked up the assist. Cody Champagne also scored for Topeka.

Eric Hancock rejected 39 shots on goal for Odessa. The Jackalopes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Drew Vogler made 24 saves for Topeka on 27 shots. The RoadRunners incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
