Amarillo wins tough contest against Rio Grande Valley, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Amarillo Bulls escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Gernhofer's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Amarillo got the win thanks to a great game by Roman Ammirato, who had two goals and one assist. Ammirato scored the first of his two goals at 19:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brendan McGuire assisted on the tally. Ammirato's next tally made the score 4-2 Amarillo with two seconds left in the third period. Gernhofer picked up the assist.

The Bulls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Rio Grande Valley power plays.

Amarillo additionally got points from Gernhofer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cody Gylling also scored for Amarillo. In addition, Amarillo received assists from Mike Davis, who had one and Brendan Vetter, who had two.

Rio Grande Valley was helped by Tyler Bruneteau, who registered one goal. Bruneteau scored 6:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Rio Grande Valley. Ben Greiner assisted on the tally. Rio Grande Valley also got a goal from Anthony Croston as well. More assists for Rio Grande Valley came via Evan Schmidbauer, who had one and Dylan Abood, who had two.

Paul Berrafato rejected 24 shots on goal for Amarillo. The Bulls totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Killer Bees' Olli Kalkaja stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Rio Grande Valley ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
