Johnstown beats Port Huron 4-3 after comeback scare

The Johnstown Tomahawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Huron Fighting Falcons on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Matthew Meier put Johnstown up 4-2 in the third period, but Port Huron pulled to within one on Niko Coffman's tally 8:05 into the third period.

The Tomahawks were led by Meier, who racked up one goal. Meier scored on the power play 4:05 into the third period to make the score Johnstown. A checking from behind penalty on Alex Archibald had put Johnstown on the power play. Trevor Recktenwald provided the assist.

The Tomahawks took advantage of the Fighting Falcons' penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. Johnstown's offense was clicking better than usual and put 44 shots on goal during the game, better than the 24.0 shots per game it averages.

Johnstown also got points from Mitch Hall, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Johnstown included Zack Wallace and Brandon Reinholz, who each put in one. In addition, Johnstown received assists from Jordan Watt, who had three and Joe Drabin and Shane Bednard, who contributed one a piece.

Port Huron put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 23.7 it averages per game.

The Fighting Falcons were helped by Logan Lambdin, who had two goals. Lambdin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 1:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Johnstown. Lucas Little picked up the assist. Lambdin's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 13:57 left in the second period. Coffman provided the assist. Port Huron additionally got points from Coffman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Huron were Zach Badalamenti, who had two and Jonathan Kopacka and Matt Seidel, who each chipped in one.

Alex Okicki recorded 25 saves for the Tomahawks. Johnstown incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Alex Blankenburg made 40 saves for Port Huron on 44 shots. The Fighting Falcons incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
