Fairbanks hangs on, beats Wichita Falls 3-1

Colton Wolter scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Fairbanks Ice Dogs held off the challenges of the Wichita Falls Wildcats in a tough 3-1 win.

Wolter provided Fairbanks with the game-winning tally when he scored 3:52 into the the first period. Ethan Somoza provided the assist.

Doug Rose had two goals to lead the Ice Dogs to victory. Rose scored at 11:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fairbanks and again while on the power play 18:51 into the second to make the score 3-1 Fairbanks.

Fairbanks' Kevin Aldridge was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Aldridge will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.0.

The defensemen of the Ice Dogs were also effective in Wichita Falls' zone, and came away with two goals.

In addition, Fairbanks received assists from Tayler Munson, who had one and Chandler Madry and Lonnie Clary, who contributed two a piece.

The Wildcats were led by Will Vosejpka, who scored the team's only goal. Vosejpka scored on the power play 18:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fairbanks. Wichita Falls earned a power play opportunity when Todd Burgess was put in the box for tripping.

Fairbanks totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. David Zevnik made 24 saves for the Wildcats on 27 shots. Wichita Falls totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
