The Austin Bruins used a sparkling performance by Nicholas Lehr to take down the Brookings Blizzard, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Austin's 3-0 shutout victory. The Bruins' penalty kill excelled, as Austin gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays. The Bruins stifled Brookings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Austin's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Bruins allow 2.1 goals per game. Austin could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game. The 34 shots that the Bruins put on net surpassed Austin's average of 27.1 shots per game this season. The Bruins were helped by Trey Dodd, who registered one goal. Dodd scored 7:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Austin. Drew Anderson picked up the assist. Austin also got points from Josh Bretner, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sam Kauppila also scored for Austin. More assists for Austin came via Cory Dunn and Brennan Sanford, who contributed one a piece. The Blizzard put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Austin to score on any of its three power plays. With 41 shots on target during the contest, Brookings exceeded the 29.2 shots it averages per game this year. The Blizzard were led by Russ Jordan, who took four shots. The Bruins' Lehr stopped 41 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Austin Priebe rejected 31 shots on goal for Brookings. The Blizzard incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
